    Healthy Ambos Save Lives

St John Ambulance staff across New Zealand are taking action to highlight the risks posed to themselves and the public from the current state of the Ambulance service. Sign the open letter to St John CEO Peter Bradley to show your support.

    To Peter Bradley,

Assaults on single-crewed ambulance staff, prolonged work-periods without rest breaks, and patient welfare put at risk are now common occurrences in the service.  With adequate staff and funding these issues are easily resolved.

Please do the right thing by your staff and the people they care for and ensure:

Ambulances are fully crewed with skilled staff so that patients get the best care possible and Ambulance Professionals are safe in vulnerable situations.

Ambulance Professionals get rest and meal breaks to ensure that they are fit to make the right decisions on the job to save lives.

Ambulance  Professionals are fairly rewarded for the service they provide.

We stand in support of Ambulance Professionals in their fight for fair work conditions.

    Keep the Westpac branches

Despite making profits of nearly half a billion dollars in the last half year, Aussie banking giant, Westpac, is proposing to shut 19 of its branches - many of them in New Zealand's heartland. First union is standing up for Westpac workers and for the communities that rely on them. Join us to tell Simon Power, the head of Consumer Banking at Westpac not to abandon our communities.

    To Simon Power:

Don't close our branches. They are an integral part of our communities - many of them are in New Zealand's heartland. Pulling out of towns like Raglan and Ranfurly is a vote of no confidence in our heartland and will lead to New Zealanders losing confidence in your bank.

Westpac talks about being a good corporate citizen. Making dozens of workers redundant, and leaving your customers with nothing but "smart" ATMs and internet banking are not the actions of a good corporate citizen. For the people who work at Westpac, for your customers in regional New Zealand, for your own reputation, please leave these branches open.

    Yours,

    Our democracy!

Local Government is where some of the most vital decisions for our communities, our environment, and our families are made. It’s our democracy – let’s stand up for it!

    1,779 signatures

This year we vote on what kind of local government we want.

Our District and Regional Councils, and District Health Boards, make some of the most important decisions that affect our lives. It’s not just about rubbish and rates. It’s about the plans that shape our communities over decades. Local government should create jobs, protect our environment, and make sure our families and our communities enjoy the good lives we all deserve. And we can make it do that. All we have to do is work together.

So sign up, let us know your home town so we can keep you in touch with local campaigns, and together we’ll make a real difference in our communities and across New Zealand. It’s our democracy – let’s make it work for all of us.

Stop the clock on back pay loss

A massive payroll error means New Zealanders are owed billions in holiday backpay.
But every day a million dollars of that debt is being written off as it passes the six year statute of limitations.

Tell the government to stop the clock on the write-off while we get this problem fixed.

To the Rt Hon John Key and Cabinet,

New Zealanders are losing a million dollars a day in unpaid leave - please put the CTU’s Bill to the house under urgency to stop the clock on this write-off. Kiwis deserve the chance to recover the back-pay they are owed.

    Protect Easter Sunday

The Government is trying to pass a law that puts retail workers’ Easter Sunday at risk. Peter Dunne and Te Ururoa Flavell can stop this happening. Sign the petition to tell them to put family ahead of shopping.

To Peter Dunne and Te Ururoa Flavell,

Having a few days in the year when people are completely free to spend time with their family and friends is so very important. There's enough pressure on people to fill their lives with work as it is - being able to take a little time for yourself and your loved ones is a vital part of who we are.

The Shop Trading Hours Amendment Bill puts one of these precious protected days at risk for Kiwis who work in retail.

We urge you to do right by working New Zealanders and their families and vote against this Bill.

    Please, choose family over shopping.
