To the Ministry of Education,

I am submitting my opposition to clause 8 of the Education (Tertiary Education and Other Matters) Amendment Bill 2016.

I believe that the minister and future tertiary education ministers should retain the ability to give higher rates of funding to publicly-owned tertiary institutions.
Universities, wānanga and polytechnics are not the same as private for-profit providers.
They have a legal duty to teach New Zealanders of all backgrounds, to protect academic freedom, and to strengthen our country with strong research.
