Kawerau mill workers need your support

Today is a good day for working New Zealanders, and an example of what we can achieve when we stand together in union.

I want to thank you for your contribution to the Kawerau millworkers. 145 workers were locked out on August 9, and today the Pulp and Paper Workers Union confirmed they voted to accept a revised offer from their employer.

National Secretary Tane Phillips said, “This has been the most brutal behaviour from a company I have seen in years. They just threw everything at our members.”

Your donation has helped to support workers through these challenging times.

On behalf of the NZCTU, I want to congratulate the workers who stood together to stand up to the bullying tactics of the companies, and to thank you for your part in helping raise over $56,000 towards the strike fund.

I also want to acknowledge the contributions from other unions, including the Dairy Workers’ Union and E tū, the Meatworkers Union, PPTA and the PSA.
