Kia Ora Gaza
Since protests on the Gaza-Israel border began on 30 March 2018, through to the end of May Israeli troops killed 115 Palestinians and wounded more than 13,000 people, including 3,600 by live ammunition. This horrific number includes 29 medics shot and two killed.
In July 2018 the international Freedom Flotilla will again challenge Israel’s illegal blockade of Gaza. Kia Ora Gaza has been invited to send a New Zealander to join the Flotilla and they have selected Mike Treen, Unite Union’s National Director of Organising. As well as his union work, Mike is a long-time international human rights campaigner. NZ-Palestinian yacht engineer Youssef Sammour will join Mike as a crew member too.
In 2015 New Zealand sponsored two senior MaoriTV journalists on the Flotilla, and in 2016 sent Green Party co-leader & MP Marama Davidson on the Women’s Boat to Gaza.
The New Zealand union movement has had a longstanding support for the people of Palestine. Click here for the resolution passed in 2009.
As part of participating New Zealand will share some of the costs of this non-violent peace mission - including a contribution to the purchase of the four boats, refit, equipment, accommodation and airfares - that will total approximately $40,000. We are asking for your donation to support that participation.
The blockade of Gaza must end. The world community must stand up and take its place alongside the people of Palestine to force Israel to end this slaughter and allow the people blockaded in Gaza to have normal relations with the outside world. If you can chip in, that would be amazing.
