Nursing and Social Work Curriculum Unification – Delay the roll out and listen!

Te Pūkenga’s move to a unified curriculum in nursing and social work by 2023 has been unnecessarily rushed. The staff of the sector have responded amazingly to provide quality learning for students through a pandemic and continue to prioritise the needs of students and their professions.  The pressure to implement a totally new curriculum in a few months is unfair and disrespectful.

The undersigned call on Te Pūkenga to listen to their staff, show genuine care about their wellbeing and provide time for them to do the best for students. Te Hautū Kahurangi | Tertiary Education Union calls on the leaders of Te Pūkenga to stop imposing unrealistic timelines and work with staff and unions to co-design a process that respectfully listens to what staff know will best deliver curriculum that will work for learners, staff, and industry.
