Pay Equity Pledge

At next year’s election, we are putting our vote where our values are. That’s why we’re committing to vote for pay equity.

That’s why we’re voting for political parties who will:

  • Introduce new and improved pay equity legislation to the House within their first 100 days.
  • Commit funding for pay equity at least to the same level cut by the Luxon Government, so NZ workers receive meaningful settlements.
  • Ensure any new legislation enables urgent settling of claims, so workers aren’t left waiting.

The Cost of Gutting Pay Equity

Over 350,000 workers were directly impacted when the National-led Government gutted New Zealand’s world leading pay equity system. The Government cancelled claims for over 182,000 people that would have lifted their pay and eased the cost-of-living crisis for them. Working people who had claims settled are now blocked from being able to maintain equitable rates for 10 years. These workers are at the heart of healthcare, education and community - they run the very services that help us live and thrive. In a cost-of-living crisis, this is money taken out of whānau budgets and away from communities to fund tax cuts for landlords and tobacco companies. New Zealanders value fairness and we’ve always led the way when it comes to women’s rights.
