We need real stories to show why FPAs matter.
We are looking for people who want to share what Fair Pay Agreements means to them. This might be in the media (TV, radio or newspapers) or for social media stories. We’d love to hear from everyone and we’re particularly keen to hear from people who work in the industries where FPAs are currently underway. Will you help us out?
Please share what FPAs means to you below, or leave your details so we can get in touch.

Stephanie Kennedy commented 2023-11-21 11:22:24 +1300I want my workplace to be fair. Listening to others in my workplace it’s amazing what pay rates people are offered when doing the same job. I don’t understand why employers think they are fair. Greedy I say. -

Patrick gibbons commented 2023-11-21 10:36:23 +1300Fair pay means I can get paid what I’m worth. Which would make taking time out of when I could be potentially studying more worth while. -
Catherine Fairhall commented 2023-11-21 10:35:41 +1300Everyone who works in New Zealand should receive a fair days pay for a fair days work. If that work is undertaken on a weekend or statutory holiday, then the worker should receive extra money for working those days, including days in lieu for statutory holidays. Having a fair pay agreement in place assists workers to collectively receive the correct entitlements without having to negotiate with their employer on their own, as some workers don’t have the ability to have these conversations with their employer. Employers need to be clear that with a happy workforce who are paid well for their hard work, will ultimately provide a high level of production and service to the customers and the employer. -
Anna Heather commented 2023-11-21 10:30:48 +1300Supermarket work in the wake of covid had us as Essential workers, knowing that to keep stores open and running they needed the staff to be front line and risk their health to ensure people could still get their everyday essentials. It’s still a vital role, and having to deal with the public and keeping to consumer expectations, we deserve to have our fair pay. Now with the cost of living, everyday abuse is hurled at employees and the only reason you can keep staff and hire Into the industry is to keep the pay at a close living wage for those trying to provide for their families. Essentially we are still essential, and need to be paid as such. -

Daniel Wilkey commented 2023-11-20 21:38:03 +1300As supermarket employees, we want to share a glimpse into our world. We worked tirelessly through the COVID lockdown, sacrificed holidays, including Christmas and New Year’s, to ensure you had access to essentials. Despite our dedication, we are among the lowest-paid workers. Our commitment to serving you comes at a personal cost, and we hope you recognize the challenges we face. Your support means the world to us -

simardeep Singh commented 2023-11-19 06:43:45 +1300In the supermarket culture, Employers are getting work done at extreme level of labor. i Don’t think it is considered as high intensity work comparing to construction. If we have data of back pain and other body parts pain, we would be able to find out how much work supermarket employees are doing. And their payscale is very unfair. regardless of any government, Fair Pay must be considered. these Owner based supermarkets are very self centered and rewards for employees are very minimal. Please do not repeal anything that is for people of this country.
I always say:-
Be a Leader not a Boss. -
Samantha Powell commented 2023-11-18 08:52:18 +1300To me a fair pay agreement means I will be able to save some money instead of being in the red zone every week and wondering how I am going to pay my bills, it means that I am able to put healthy food on the table for my family instead of having noodles and processed foods, it means, it also means that I can afford to get new clothes and shoes for my family instead of having clothes and shoes with holes in them and it means I won’t have to think about and try to calculate whether I can afford food AND a full tank of petrol for work for the week. -
Grant Hird commented 2023-11-18 05:11:31 +1300Since the end of the Award system/EC Act in the 1990s workers esp Low paid and vulnerable have suffered greatly.
Hence our pay rates are so far behind Australia which has largely kept this in place -
