Thanks for signing. Will you share your story?

We need real stories to show why FPAs matter.

We are looking for people who want to share what Fair Pay Agreements means to them. This might be in the media (TV, radio or newspapers) or for social media stories. We’d love to hear from everyone and we’re particularly keen to hear from people who work in the industries where FPAs are currently underway. Will you help us out?

Please share what FPAs means to you below, or leave your details so we can get in touch.

When inflation is running at say5%pa then that should be the start point in pay negotiations then add what increase is trying to be agreed upon. No one should lose money because the increase is less than inflation. One way to make things fairer for all,is to make "The Higher Salaries Commission "decision for mp’s binding for all workers regardless of who or what they do,even if on a benefit.

It’s a shame government has decided not to increase the minimum wage for the next 3 years and the cost of living has skyrocketed after covid. At least with labour there was a relief of minimum wage increases. Interest rates are very high, petrol is high, groceries prices high, minimum wage let’s put that on hold for three years. Fair pay agreements let’s put that on hold as well. 1 star to national party out of 5.

Most people signing will talk about worker exploitation so I will talk about something different.

The NZ public transport sector is run by private operators. These operators compete in a “race to the bottom” tender process where they keep their costs down my keeping low wages for their workers. By making it hard for public transport workers to meet the cost of living, it drives workers away from the sector. This results in staff shortages (particularly driver shortages), resulting in poor quality public transport services.

Fair Pay Agreements are needed to protect workers and stop private operators competing for contracts by racing to the bottom.

We need fair pay because foodstuff employees are not paid the same as the Australian company countdown and the union was negotiating fair pay for new world and Pak n save workers. We would of gotten paid more then countdown nz employee or about the same as them it’s crap an Australian company is paying more in our own country then a New Zealand company foodstuff no wonder people are switching jobs to work for countdown nz and moving to Australia.

FPA means more income for me and my family

I work extremely hard to support people in need and it would be great if we were all noticed for the important work we do

A Fair Pay would make it a lot easier to deal with bosses who constantly make stupid decisions that impact US actual workers. Also a Fair Pay would make it easier to live on due to the rising costs of living and the low wages we workers get compared to bosses who sit around all day doing nothing

It’s shameful to know that in NZ in 2023 if you are a female Polynesian you are probably the lowest paid just because of those 2 factors, shame, shame, shame !

Totally unethical to treat the Workers of this country as a mere means to an end. We need more than adequate food and shelter to work for companies; we need good wages reflecting the importance of Workers to keep this country moving foward.

FPAs don’t make the negotiation process more complex – they provide a framework to streamline negotiations when negotiations need to happen. It’s important that that process is made easy, streamlined and collaborative, and FPAs do that well. Sometimes it’s murky – some jobs cross multiple industries – but that’s exactly what the negotiation process is for! Sorting out all the murky grey areas and the details.

FPA means being recognised for the important work that we do but is also much more than this. It allows us to earn a liveable wage and not just live to work but work to live, a decent life. It means being able to afford things that we currently can’t as a lot of us are just making ends meet.

National campaigned on looking after lower to middle income workers but by repealing the FPA they are taking away our rights, keeping us underpaid and not recognising the important work that we do. They are trying to divide and conquer. In one hand they taketh away from the low to middle income and in the next they give to others, namely landlords by giving 1.3bil worth of tax breaks. Where is the justice??

FPAs means maybe I want be just surviving (day2day) but that maybe I’ll actually be able to have a life that doesn’t just involve paying bills, I know for my children it will benefit them in how and what they are able to give their children – my grandchildren. All I see are rich getting richer. The poverty line has gotten worse and the govt are to blind to see this , we have families working two jobs ad still not managing , rents go up and that’s a whole wage it bloody wrong. NZ is becoming a third world country. Immigrant’s get more help then kiwis do…….. I could keep going but it really gets me worked up, so when you ask what FPAs means …. BLOODY EVERYTHING

Living crisis is a real thing. We/ I am 58 years old and i have been a support worker since i was 17 years old. My son who is a truck driver earns more than me. Do the government officials realize they are going to be old one day. They will want to be looked after by people that care. We care, but its going to get to a stage where many will leave the industry to go for higher wages. Support workers stay where they are because they care. Many are leaving the industry already and. Companies are hiring Asian workers. Don’t get me wrong, they are good. But when doing cares two by two they talk in there own language making one feel uncomfortable. Hiring overseas staff will not help us kiwis, We do have long memories. I will guarantee we will remember the national government for its lack of caring. Keep this up and you will be a one term government.
