Everyone should be paid a living wage for the work they do

Although I’m now retired, having worked in better times I feel angry that we now live in an era when so many 2-parent families cannot make ends meet. Did I say, “angry”? I really mean, disgusted.

As a grandmother raising 2 special needs mokopuna, budget is tight but only part time hours fit around their appointments. Part time and/or flexible tend to be minimum wage, I have very little time to rest therefore every dollar earned has to stretch as far as possible. The prev govt min wage increases make huge difference.

Fair = fair, flexibility = exploitation.

Fare pay should be naturally expected an taught in schools along side the 1948 human rights declaration. Your intrinsic value to societies growth is an absolute necessity.To think government can decide that a politicians contribution Is worth more than a cleaner midwife nurse or truck driver,Is astonishing considering the recent public performance by our elected officials.Ironically one of their first decisions is their own pay increase,While legislating the demise of the working class men and women.Criminal

Ece teacher here – would love to get paid what I’m worth for my degree qualification job in the education sector! We work damn hard!

Cost of living crisis…..pay us our worth!

As a school bus driver I am fortunate that my employment pays the Living wage $26 per hr. Other drivers with other companies are paid considerably less than that. We have patiently sat back and watched our urban colleagues get $28 & $30 per hr, while we drive identical buses. We don’t have protection of security cameras, subjected to abuse, clean up after food fights, try & control vaping etc. We are the legacy of PTOM & the FPA was our only hope of pay parity with our urban colleagues, but our patience is running out. Our employer pays us as much as they can under the MOE contract and striking for pay means our employer is subject to penalties for not fulfilling the contracts. Importing drivers will not work the part time hours. We pinned our hopes or recognition & pay parity on a FPA. Seriously pissed off.

I am appalled that this government would do such a thing. It is disgraceful!

As a Hospitality the fair pay agreement means everything. It helps protect me from employers who don’t care about paying me fairly.

I worked in hospitality for 10 years, and bore witness to people in really vulnerable positions (on visas, teenagers, those living in poverty) be consistently be taken advantage of by their employees. I support fair pay agreements with my whole heart . My email if needed is
